Pushing the Boundaries of Polymer Chemistry: Recent Innovations
Using solar reflective coating technology, cool roofs help decrease the temperature of roofs, which can substantially enhance occupant comfort, lower cooling costs for building owners and stress on the power grid, and potentially mitigate urban heat island effects.
EPS® 2210 is an all-acrylic emulsion designed to keep white roofs white, increasing solar reflectivity by providing excellent dirt pickup resistance and asphalt bleed-through resistance.
Roof coatings formulated with EPS® 2210 are capable of conforming to ASTM D6083 Type II standards, ensuring low-temperature flexibility at -10°C.
EPS® 2210 also sets itself apart by offering excellent weatherability, adhesion to a variety of roofing substrates, and a good balance of tensile and elongation properties.
High-Performance Without Fluorosurfactants
Demand for products that offer exceptional performance without any added fluorosurfactants is growing in the architectural market. EPS® 2746 and EPS® 2786 offer exactly that, while also being near-zero VOC capable.
EPS® 2746 is an all-acrylic polymer for cutting-edge flat through semi-gloss interior and exterior architectural coatings, while EPS® 2786 is recommended for semi-gloss to high gloss coatings. These versatile resins can be used to formulate architectural DIY and professional paint formulations.
Key features of EPS® 2746 are scrub resistance over a wide formulation space, stain removal, washability and self-priming properties. EPS® 2786 sets itself apart by offering early hot block resistance, rapid hardness development and gloss retention, as well as scrub and abrasion resistance.
Both polymers are ideal for exterior applications due to their exceptional resistance to dirt pickup.
Art paint manufacturers value compliant polymers that are formulated to meet the stringent labeling requirements of ASTM D4236 and be approved by The Art & Creative Materials Institute (ACMI), an association that seeks to promote safety in art and creative products.
EPS® 2775 was designed with those specifications in mind, and it has been uniquely crafted without the use of APEO surfactants or intentionally added fluorosurfactants. It is also near-zero VOC capable.
This innovative all-acrylic, film-forming polymer for high-quality artist paints offers excellent yellowing resistance and impressive mechanical and UV durability, making it a standout in the industry.
There's a growing demand for DTM coatings that meet tough performance requirements, and we conducted extensive research while developing EPS® 2585 to achieve the ideal balance of properties that the market requires.
EPS® 2585 is a high-solids waterborne acrylic emulsion that provides the capability to formulate direct-to-metal applications at <100g/L VOC, recommended for high-performance general industrial and railcar coatings with excellent hardness, block resistance and early water resistance.
Coatings formulated with EPS® 2585 help optimize the coating process by eliminating the priming step. This helps manufacturers save time and money while extending the life span of their coated products.
This polymer is well suited for exterior applications due to its exceptional gloss retention and multi-substrate adhesion. With EPS® 2585, we offer superior corrosion resistance without the use of anti-corrosion pigments, even at film builds as low as 1.5 mils.
As the pressure-sensitive adhesives market grows rapidly, we see expanding demand for industrial tape and label applications, and manufacturers can rely on EPS® 2133 to deliver the adhesion and high shear holding strength they need for their formulations.
EPS® 2133 is an all-acrylic polymer for permanent and removable pressure-sensitive adhesive applications. It can also be used in formulating plasticizer-free pigmented caulks and film-to-film lamination.
This polymer has broad formulation latitude, allowing adhesive manufacturers to develop products that achieve their performance targets.
Pigment Dispersions: Waterborne Compatibility
NovoColor® HP II
When selecting a pigment dispersion, manufacturers look for products that have minimal impact on critical paint and coatings properties, while offering remarkable compatibility across a wide spectrum of coating systems and low VOC capability.
NovoColor® HP II is an innovative line of waterborne pigment dispersions specifically engineered for use in architectural and waterborne industrial coatings and has proven effective over time when used in multiple coatings systems, including acrylic emulsions, modified acrylic emulsions, PVAs, waterborne 2K polyurethanes, waterborne 2K epoxies, and water reducible alkyd systems.
To meet diverse coating requirements, NovoColor® HP II offers a broad selection of pigments focusing on durability, chemical resistance, and color space, enabling our clients to find the perfect fit for their needs.
NovoColor® HP II colorants are UL GREENGUARD Gold Certified for low chemical emissions, which means products are built to contribute to safer, healthier air. EPS® continues to push the boundaries of polymer technology, and our commitment goes beyond products. We build partnerships by delivering on our promise of exceptional products, formulation support and dedicated customer service.
